     Learning for Life...

At Four Marks CE Primary School, our vision of “Learning for Life!” underpins everything we do. Through our Christian values of Love, Integrity, Forgiveness and Equality, we actively promote pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural (SMSC) development and prepare children to become responsible, respectful and active citizens. The British Values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance are woven throughout school life, our curriculum and enrichment opportunities.

Children learn about democracy through meaningful participation in school decision-making. They elect representatives to the School Council, vote for weekly values awards, contribute to policy development and apply for leadership positions through a formal application and interview process. Through PSHE, Philosophy for Children (P4C), collective worship and classroom discussions, pupils learn that their voices matter and that everyone has a right to be heard.

We promote the rule of law by establishing high expectations for behaviour based on our school values. Children help create class charters and contribute to our behaviour systems, helping them understand the importance of rules, fairness and responsibility. Visitors such as police officers and magistrates help pupils understand how laws protect individuals and communities, while curriculum topics explore how laws and justice have developed over time.

Individual liberty is fostered by encouraging children to make informed choices, pursue their interests and develop confidence in their own abilities. Through PSHE, online safety education, anti-bullying work and equality-focused learning, pupils learn how to stay safe, respect the rights of others and recognise their own potential.

Our emphasis on mutual respect and equality is evident throughout school life. Children learn to value diversity, appreciate different viewpoints and work collaboratively. Programmes such as Peer Mentors and Young Interpreters help create an inclusive environment where everyone feels welcomed, respected and supported.

SMSC development is further strengthened through collective worship, curriculum studies, community partnerships and opportunities to reflect on big questions, values and beliefs. Children explore inspirational individuals who have challenged injustice and brought about positive change in society.

A particular strength of the school is its commitment to children’s leadership and service. From the earliest years, pupils are encouraged to take responsibility and contribute to the school community. As they progress through the school, they take on increasingly significant leadership roles, supporting younger pupils, leading clubs, serving as captains, prefects, librarians and school councillors, and contributing to local community projects.

Through these experiences, children develop confidence, compassion, responsibility and respect, ensuring they are well prepared for life in modern Britain.

    Supporting Mental Health and Wellbeing

At Four Marks CE Primary School, we recognise that positive mental health and emotional wellbeing are essential for children to thrive, learn and achieve. Guided by our vision of "Learning for Life!" and our Christian values of Love, Integrity, Forgiveness and Equality, we are committed to creating a caring, nurturing and inclusive environment where every child feels safe, valued and supported.

Mental health and wellbeing are promoted through our daily interactions, pastoral care, curriculum and wider school ethos. Through PSHE, collective worship, our school values and positive relationships with trusted adults, children are encouraged to develop resilience, confidence, self-esteem and the emotional skills needed to manage life's challenges.

We place a strong emphasis on helping children feel listened to and understood. Staff work closely with pupils and families to identify concerns early and provide appropriate support. Our inclusive approach ensures that children know where to seek help and feel confident talking about their feelings and wellbeing.

The school works in partnership with parents, carers and external agencies where needed to ensure that children receive the support required to fully engage in school life and reach their potential. We also provide access to information, guidance and signposting to a range of mental health and wellbeing services and resources for families.
